February Giveaway! – Secret Loves!
Posted by Katrina Kaczmarek on February 1, 2013
YAY! I am going to host my very first giveaway in honor of the upcoming Valentines Day celebration! Here goes!
Last night I was watching the movie Braveheart. Anyway, if you are familiar with the film you will know that Braveheart, unfortunately had to have a secret marriage. In Scotland at that time, by law the Lords of the land could have every new wife on her wedding night to themselves (in other words; rape) So Braveheart being the upstanding man that he was, married in secret.
Now here is the contest. I want comments answering the question; Why would anyone marry in secret today?
Computer generated spam comments will not be eligible for the prize. Eligible entries must include a working e-mail address. I will only use this in order to notify you and get your address to send you the prize should you win!
I will draw one random winner on February 14th to celebrate all those lovers out there who must keep their loves and lives secret!
Now for the prize! The winner will receive this beautiful Cambodian made Hugs coin purse. Remember all of my Hugs bags were made by women in Cambodia who have been rescued from the sex trade. When you purchase my Cambodian products, you are helping them to stay out of the sex trade and to support their families. You are also sending Hugs around the world because we are all! HELD UNDER GOD’S SPIRIT!!!!
Contest Closes February 14, 2013 at 12pm PST!!!
Good Luck!!!!
Hugs!

I first thought about Romeo and Juliette after I read your post, but then I did an internet search to find some real people who have experienced the need to love another (dating or married) in secret.
Most of the people who had posted something online were keeping it a secret because their families did not approve. They had every intention of eventually telling their families, but hoped to first make it work in secret.
As one woman posted, God is light and does not like secrets because they live in the darkness, but at the end of the day it is not our story and if we don’t know the full story behind another’s secret then who are we to judge their reasoning.
Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

Maybe there are cultural differences and the families won’t accept the marriage.

The first thing that comes to mind is religion or cultural differences and not being accepted by their families and other groups. Lots of people used to (and still do) “elope’ because their families thought they were too young or whatever reason. Sometimes couples run off and get married because they don’t want to deal with the hassles of having a big wedding.
Keeping a marriage secret is different. I don’t know why anyone would do that.
